French Creek starts in a forested glen in southwest New York. The photo above shows the Creek two miles south of its uppermost headwater. This watershed is 1,270 square miles, almost 11 percent of the total Allegheny Watershed land mass. Four Ice Age glaciers left the terrain smoother with less dramatic elevationFrench Creek drops 732 feet over 117 milesless elevation change than most watersheds in the Allegheny basin. It is a scenic, non-industrial landscape that is lightly populated outside the towns of Meadville and Franklin. In some areas there are two cows for every person!
