The Timeline explores historical events
regarding the development of the Allegheny Watershed and the development of our
society in western Pennsylvania, southwest New York and northern West Virginia.
The 120 events on the Timeline have been loosely clustered into five periods:
Exploration,
Exploitation,
Industrialization,
Legislation,
and Conservation.
Five pie charts show the diminution of the once primeval forest. Events
within the Watershed appear on the bottom of the Timeline. National and international
events on top put regional events within a larger context of time.
The Timeline scrolls horizontally from left to right. Click on highlighted
imagery or text to learn more about events or to read excerpts from historic
documents. Click on the title above to bring you back to the five timeline choices.
